Once students have obtained university admission in one of the universities in Northern Cyprus, the time for obtaining a student residence permit in Cyprus and organizing their documents to apply for a visa begins.

In this article, we present to you the most important steps and documents required to obtain a study visa in Cyprus.

Obtaining a Student Residence Permit in Cyprus

Obtaining a student visa in Northern Cyprus is a straightforward process that students can easily accomplish. The steps for obtaining a student residence permit can be divided into two main stages: obtaining the entry visa to Cyprus and obtaining the study visa in Cyprus.

Entry Visa to Cyprus

Obtaining the acceptance letter from one of the universities in Northern Cyprus is the only way for students from all over the world to enter Northern Cyprus for studies. Once you have received the final acceptance letter, you can enter Northern Cyprus. First, you need to visit the Embassy or Consulate of Cyprus in your country with the following documents in hand:

  • The university’s acceptance letter you’ve received.
  • The bank transfer receipt showing the payment of the first installment to the university.
  • A valid passport with at least one year remaining.
  • Visa fees (varies depending on time and location).

The visa issuance usually takes around 2 to 3 days (varies from embassy to embassy). After obtaining the visa, you should book your flight ticket to Ercan Airport in Northern Cyprus. Upon arrival at Ercan Airport, you will be granted temporary residency for 30 to 90 days until the final residence permit is issued.

You should ensure that your arrival in Northern Cyprus is well-ahead of the start of your studies to have sufficient time to complete other requirements before applying for the study visa in Cyprus, such as arranging accommodation, obtaining student health insurance, and finalizing the residence procedures.

Study Visa in Cyprus

After arriving in Cyprus with an entry visa, you must apply for the student residence permit at the Cyprus Migration Department. This residence permit allows you to legally reside and study in Cyprus for more than 90 days. The visa you received before traveling is an entry visa, not a study visa for non-EU/EFTA citizens.

Upon arrival, you will also need to undergo medical examinations for Hepatitis B and C, HIV, Syphilis, and chest X-ray.

To obtain the student residence permit in Cyprus, you need to submit the following documents to the Cyprus Migration Department:

A Copy of your passport.

Student residence permit application form.

Your Cyprus entry visa.

  • Acceptance letter from one of the universities in Cyprus.
  • Your medical examination results.
  • Proof of your residency in Cyprus.
  • Proof of Cyprus health insurance.

The Cyprus Migration Department will register your biometric measurements (biological measurements or physical characteristics that can be used to identify individuals, including fingerprinting, facial recognition, and retina scanning) and take your signature before issuing your student residence permit in Cyprus.
